Information and Links About Agility: Agility is a sport that at it's essence is an obstacle course for dogs. Dogs are trained to go over jumps, through tunnels, walk on ramps (dog walk and a-frame), tip teeter-totters, go through slalom poles (weave poles) and do it all in the order that his or her handler indicates. In the US, there are a number of agility organizations that sponsor trials where dog and handler teams earn qualifying scores (Qs) towards titles in various classes (Regular, Jumpers, Chances, Weavers, Tunnelers, Touch N Go, etc) and levels (Novice, Open, Elite). As teams earn more scores and improve, they move up in level eventually trying to earn their Championship. At competitions (trials), each team's run is scored with faults for missing a contact zone, knocking a bar, going off course, missing an obstacle and for being over the time that the judge sets. The course the team runs is never the same in order or challenges, though the equipment is the same in each venue. Some venues have certain restrictions or allowances on what equipment can be used at what levels. Not everyone who does agility likes to compete though and ACT-Up encourages ALL club members or people interested in the sport to come out and play with their dog! It is a great way to bond with your dog, get some exercise, meet new people and have a good time. Links: Agility Organizations: |
